HBM&S to close Flin Flon mine

Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting, a subsidiary of Minorco (MNRCY-Q), intends to close down its polymetallic opeations in Flin Flon, Man., by 2004.

Suspension of the copper-zinc-silver-gold complex will result in about 1,500 workers losing their jobs. The announcement came after the local membership of the United Steelworkers refused to give up their right to strike for a period of 15 years.
