The board of directors of International Platinum (TSE) recently appointed John Hansuld, Ph.D., as president of the company. Hansuld was former president of Canamax Resources (TSE) from 1983 to 1989, during which period Canamax developed from an exploration company into a gold producer with three operating mines. In 1988 he was The Northern Miner’s Mining Man of the Year.
A graduate of Harvard Business School, he has also served as a director of various mining associations and is on the board of several mineral exploration companies including Spirit Lake Explorations (ME).
Hansuld resigned as president of Vancouver-based Canamax last year, following start-up problems at the company’s Ketza River gold mine in the Yukon.
News of Hansuld’s appointment caused the share price of International Platinum to increase to 78 cents from 65 cents on The Toronto Stock Exchange. Former International Platinum president William Eplett who had guided the company since its inception 1980, died recently.
With a portfolio of 25 platinum- palladium properties in both Canada and the U.S., the company is one of North America’s most active junior explorers for platinum-group metals. The company receives major funding from both West German-based Degussa and Jenkim Holdings of Hong Kong.
