In an event being billed as one of historic importance to the mining industry, 12 of its most distinguished discoverers and mine- makers (10 posthumously) are to be inducted into the recently formed Canadian Mining Hall of Fame at an inaugural banquet in the ballroom of Toronto’s Royal York Hotel on Jan 9, 1989.
National in scope, the goal of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame is to remember and honor some of the pioneers who forged the development of this country’s vast mineral resources, spearheading the mining industry as we know it today, says Hall of Fame chairman Maurice Brown. More will be inducted in subsequent years.
“We hope this will help Canadians appreciate the vital role this industry plays in our economy,” Brown adds.
Keynote speaker will be William James, chairman of Falconbridge Ltd. He is to be thanked by Alfred Powis, chairman of Noranda Inc. Lionel Kilburn, the immediate past president of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, will act as master of ceremonies.
Tickets for this affair are $100 per person (including bar). Cheques should be made out to the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame, 7 Labatt Ave., Toronto, Ont. M5A 3P2. Spouses welcome. Questions?
