Haileybury School of Mines held its graduation recently and the convocation speaker for the event was James S. Redpath, founder and chairman of the J. S. Redpath group of companies.
In 1962, Redpath founded J. S. Redpath Ltd., an international mining, engineering and contract firm. He has been chairman of the company from that date until now. He told the graduates that “attitudes are more important than facts.”
“It’s better to take a second-class idea from a first-class person than to take a first-class idea from a second-class person,” he said. “People make things happen.”
While stressing to the graduates the importance of good humor and the ability to get things done, Redpath also praised the people now in the mining profession. “Some of the best people in the world are in this field,” he said.
