Gwen Resources (ASE) has commenced dewatering the Kerr open pit on the New Buffonta gold property in Harker-Holloway Twp., near Kirkland Lake, Ont. The project is a 50/50 joint venture with Deak Resources (TSE).
After the pit is dewatered, the company hopes to begin mining a series of gold-bearing lenses, veins and alteration zones. Initially, a 3,000-ton sample will be extracted and processed at Deak’s Kerr mill in nearby Virginiatown.
In 1981, Kerr Addison Mines (TSE) extracted 62,000 tons grading 0.14 oz. gold per ton from the pit. Subsequent diamond drilling outlined additional reserves of 160,000 tons in the range 0.16 to 0.20 oz. gold.
