Grants to Laurentian

Government grants totalling $49,700 will be used by Laurentian University at Sudbury, Ont., to examine and report on the current status of research in remote sensing and its potential application to mineral exploration, and for the acquisition of geological research support equipment.

The largest of two grants (which come from the province’s ministry of northern development and mines) is worth $27,500 and will be used by the school’s geology department to acquire equipment including a machine for making transparently thin rock sections, and a thin-section video projector. The new equipment is expected to provide complementary support to the research of the Ontario Geological Survey.
