A joint venture proposal, made by Placer Development, has been accepted by Golden Star Resources, the company says. Golden Star controls the Omai gold deposit in Guyana, South America. The Placer deal will see the company continue exploration of the property.
If a one-million-tonne-per-year mill is built, then both companies will hold a 47.5% interest in the project. The government of Guyana holds a 5% stake. If Placer elects to construct a five-million-tonne- per-year facility, then Golden Star’s interest will be reduced to 23.7% and Placer’s will increase to 71.25%.

Specularite is a black variety of hematite having a splendent lustre.
