Kinbauri Gold (CDN) drills have hit gold in laterite and at depth in oxidized bedrock at the Dossi gold project in Burkina Faso.
Kinbauri, which can earn a 65% interest in the 314-sq.-km project from Montreal-listed partners Loubel Exploration and Melkior Resources, has completed 33 holes as part of a 2,000-metre, reverse-circulation drill program there. Holes were drilled over soil geochemical anomalies on a laterite surface and on an area of weathered bedrock; no fresh rock was encountered in any holes.
On the southern geochemical anomaly, Hole 29 encountered 22 metres of 1.6 grams gold per tonne, including 12 metres of 2.7 grams and 2 metres of 14.6 grams. Hole 28 hit 10 metres of 0.4 gram, including 2 metres of 0.7 gram. Hole 27 hit 6 metres of 0.7 gram, including 2 metres of 1.67 grams.
In the Central zone to the north, where numerous artisanal mine workings can be found on weathered bedrock surfaces, Holes 1-4 all showed gold values ranging from 0.17 gram to 0.28 gram in the upper 12 to 36 metres. A 2-metre intercept in Hole 19 assayed 6.62 grams.
Pervasive enrichment of gold in laterite west of the Central zone appears to define another zone (the Western zone), with gold in holes 5-7, 11 and 12 ranging from 0.19 to 0.34 gram. A 2-metre intercept in Hole 6 assayed 2.43 grams, and intercepts of 2 metres and 4 metres in Hole 7 assayed 1.14 grams and 1.6 grams, respectively.
Four drill holes in weathered bedrock over another geochemical anomaly also returned gold values. Hole 33 had intersections which included: 16 metres grading 1.03 grams; 6 metres of 2.4 grams; 12 metres of 0.6 gram; 2 metres of 2.18 grams; 6 metres of 2.61 grams; and 2 metres of 5.68 grams. The intersections of Hole 32 include: 4 metres grading 0.57 gram; 2 metres of 1.03 grams; 4 metres of 0.44 gram; 14 metres of 0.23 gram; 6 metres of 0.58 gram; and 2 metres of 1.53 grams.
Hole 31 returned intersections including: 2 metres grading 0.28 gram; 4 metres of 1.02 grams; 2 metres of 0.36 gram; and 2 metres of 0.367 gram.
The number of gold grains in pan concentrates from the drilling suggest that assay values may not be fully representative of the gold content of the laterite. Microscopic examination of the concentrates shows that gold occurs as discrete particles ranging from less than 0.1 mm up to 0.4 mm in diameter. As a means of verifying the accuracy of the assay results, metallic sieve analysis and other cross-checks are being completed.
Kinbauri is planning a diamond-drilling program to evaluate the potential of the weathered bedrock area tested by Holes 31-33. Deeper drilling, under the enriched laterite in the Southern area and the Western and Central zones, is also being considered.
