Workers at Ground Zero have unearthed hundreds of millions of dollars in lost gold amid the ruins of the World Trade Center in New York, N.Y., the New York Daily News reports.
The gold was found in a delivery tunnel. At least 100 federal agents stood guard as the city’s police and firefighters packed two armoured vehicles with the yellow metal. It took roughly 12 hours to load the first truck. It’s not known exactly how much gold was being stored in the buildings before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The Toronto-based bank of Nova Scotia says its vault contained more than $200 million in gold and silver.
