Glamis cleared for Marigold expansion

Vancouver – Reno-based Glamis Gold (GLG-T) has received approval for the construction for its planned expansion at the Marigold mine in Humboldt County, Nevada. Delays in the permitting were partly responsible for the company’s disappointing second quarter gold production.

Glamis received formal approval from Nevada’s Division of Environmental Protection, allowing the company to modify the Marigold mine Water Pollution Control Permit.

This gives the green light for construction of the Cell 12 leach pad, barren solution process pond and the waste rock dumps.

The Target 1 pit where the latest expansion phase will start, is being developed and pre-stripping activities and construction of the access road to the leach pad are progressing. The first mining is planned for September, to coincide with the commissioning of the first phase of the new leach pad.

The company has a 2/3 interest in the Marigold mine and is the operator with the remainder owned by Barrick Gold (ABX-T). Glamis expects gold production to increase sharply for the rest of the year but due to the permitting delays so far its share of production from the Marigold mine for the year, was adjusted to between 100,000 and 110,000 oz. Glamis’ share of gold production from Marigold increased to 22,188 oz. at a total cash cost of US$160 an oz. in the latest quarter.
