As part of a joint venture with Meridian Gold (mng-t), Vancouver-based Gitennes Exploration (git-t) expects to begin detailed surface exploration at the Urumalqui gold-silver project in Peru. The program will include geophysical and geochemical surveys, plus detailed sampling of mineralized targets. A drill program will follow once required permits are in hand.Gitennes notes that previous work at Urumalqui has resulted in the discovery of five gold-silver vein targets, all outcropping at surface. The joint venture has only tested one of these veins to date by wide-spaced drilling. Previous drilling also revealed the presence of lower-grade, disseminated gold mineralization that may be amenable to bulk mining.Gitennes is also carrying out reconnaissance prospecting and sampling at other properties, mostly in southern Peru. Several prospective areas have been identified and will be tested by follow-up exploration programs. One of the new targets is considered prospective for copper-zinc-gold mineralization.
