Girard leaves Cheni Gold Mines

Paul Girard has resigned as president and chief executive officer of Cheni Gold Mines (TSE), a Vancouver-based junior that owns and operates the profitable Lawyers gold mine in the Toodoggone district of British Columbia. Sargent Berner, Cheni’s corporate secretary, said Girard left Vancouver to return to Quebec for “personal reasons.” No other details of the resignation were released.

Chairman Malcolm Tascherau said the former president’s responsibilities were assumed by Cheni Vice-President Edmond Lemieux. Cheni’s major shareholder is Bureau de Recherches Geologiques et Minieres of France and affiliated organizations.

The Lawyers mine is a 550-ton- per-day underground operation, which began commercial production in March, 1989. Last year, production exceeded 48,500 oz. gold and 918,000 oz. silver. Production in 1990 is forecast at 55,000 oz. gold and 1.2 million oz. silver.
