Geophysics firms form new group

A new organization has been established to develop and promote a better understanding of Canadian geophysical expertise in mineral exploration domestically and globally. The Canadian Geophysics Congress (CGC), formed in January under the auspices of the Canada Employment and Immigration Commission’s industrial adjustment service, brings together Canadian companies specializing in different aspects of mineral exploration geophysics.

The founding CGC members are Geotech Ltd. and Dataplotting, both of Markham, Ont.; Terraquest Ltd. and Urquhart-Dvorak Ltd., both of Toronto; Canagrad Surveys Ltd. of Calgary; and JVX Ltd. of Richmond Hill, Ont.

Canadian involvement in geophysical exploration began more than 150 years ago when one of the first magnetic observatories in the world was built in York (the early name of Toronto).

Today, CGC companies offer a full range of services that extend from airborne and ground-based surveying to data interpretation, data processing, training, research and manufacturing of geophysical instrumentation.

CGC expects its clientele will include multinational corporations and the governments of developing countries seeking to locate and determine the size of mineral, oil, gas and water deposits.

The CGC is headquartered at 101 Amber St., Unit 20, Markham, Ont. L3R 3B2.
