General Electric’s (GE-N) transportation wing GE Transportation and Japanese equipment manufacturer Komatsu have delivered 17 AC mining trucks to Hindustan Zinc’s operations in India.
The Komatsu 830E-AC mining truck utilizes GE’s 240AC drive and will be the first of its kind in India.
Hindustan, a unit of Vedanta Resources (VDNRF-O, VED-L), will use the trucks at its Rampura Agucha zinc-lead mine to match its plans to expand the mine by another 20%.
Yamada Koji, managing director at Komatsu India Private Ltd., notes that the new mining trucks will help the project with recent expansion efforts.
“These trucks will increase productivity because of higher uphill and downhill speeds while lowering maintenance costs for (the company) through fewer wearing components,” he said in a press release.
The Rampura Agucha mine is one of the world’s largest zinc mines, with an annual ore production capacity of 5.0 million tonnes.
