Under the environmental assessment act, an environmental impact assessment (EIA) is undertaken by a project proponent, in this case Diavik Diamond Mines. That EIA is reviewed by the responsible government department and summarized in a comprehensive study report, prepared by that department. Gartner Lee Ltd. participated in the preparation of the comprehensive study report. The EIA was prepared primarily by Calgary-based Golder Associates. The EIA took three years to complete and was one of the most extensive such assessments undertaken by a Canadian mine to date.
