The major goal of the Canadian Council for the Americas (CCA) is to further expand the Canadian business communitys activities in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
CCA, a non-profit organization formed in 1987 and based in Toronto, also assists Canadian policy-makers by providing private-sector input focused on Latin America and the Caribbean.
During 1991, the group says, it presented more than 200 specific business opportunities to its members, co-ordinating hundreds of meetings between Canadian, Latin American and Caribbean executives. CCAs address is 145 Richmond St. W., Toronto, Ont. M5H 2L2.
According to the CCA, Latin American and Caribbean countries together form the third leading destination for Canadian overseas investments after the U.S. and Europe. Also, it says Canadian exports to the region in 1991 totalled $2.5 billion and 2-way trade between Canada and the region amounted to $7.7 billion.
And by the year 2000, CCA says, it is estimated that Latin America and the Caribbean will represent a market area of more than 600 million inhabitants.
