Flooding hampers development at Caribou

An inflow of water has temporarily halted development work at the Caribou polymetallic mine in New Brunswick.

Breakwater Resources (BWR-T) reports that water entered the former producer from a nearby open pit and was augmented by unusually heavy spring runoff.

Seventeen employees were underground at the time of the incident, though only one minor injury was reported. The man was treated in hospital and released.

Development work, which began in October 1996, is expected to resume once the underground workings have been inspected. The lead-zinc-Copper mine, situated 50 km west of Bathurst, remains scheduled to reopen by mid-year.
