Vancouver — NDT Ventures (NDE-V) and Donner Minerals (DML-V) report that work has commenced at the South Voisey Bay project in Labrador.
Archaeological work is already underway and will be followed by gravity and deep-seeking electromagnetic surveys, geological mapping and re-logging of drill core. The results will be integrated with existing exploration data in order to plan an extensive drill program next spring.
In addition Donner and Falconbridge (FL-T) have finalized agreements with the Innu Nation that address environmental and archaeological issues and Innu business and employment opportunities at South Voisey Bay.
Earlier this year, SVB Nickel (SVBN), was created to pool 20 licenses covering 549.5 sq. km in the South Voisey Bay exploration area. The ownership of SVBN is held 76.69% by Donner, 11.36% by Cypress Development (CYP-V), 6.55% by NDT Ventures, 4.2% by Rcom Venture and 1.2% by Curion Ventures (CUV-V).
Subsequent to the formation of SVBN, Donner Minerals and Falconbridge struck a deal whereby the nickel major can earn a half-interest in a 624.5-sq.-km package of claims by spending a total of $23 million on exploration over the next five years.
With the exception of some work done last year by Major General Resources (MGJ-V) on the Sarah Lake property, the entire South Voisey Bay project has been in a state of limbo for more than two years when disagreements with the Innu Nation forced Teck Cominco (TEK-T) and Donner to suspend exploration activities in the summer of 1999.
The South Voisey’s Bay project is centred 75 km west of the Labrador Sea coast and 90 km south of Inco‘s (N-T) Voisey Bay nickel project.
