Deep drilling at the Golden Kopje gold mine property in Zimbabwe has outlined potential new reserves, Falconbridge Gold (TSE) reports.
The current phase includes five holes on surface and two underground. The drilling has increased the preliminary estimate to 2.7 million tonnes averaging 8.4 grams gold per tonne (undiluted).
Hole BH47 returned separate intersections (all true widths) of 20 metres grading 12.6 grams, one metre of 5.6 grams and 3.5 metres of 6.5 grams. A hoisting plant has been installed on surface and is awaiting commissioning. The ongoing expansion program is scheduled to last into the first quarter of 1994.
The company’s other operation in Zimbabwe is Blanket, which, together with Kopje, yielded 450,620 grams during the first half of the year, up 13% from last year.
Falconbridge is also active near Timmins, Ont., where it operates the Hoyle Pond and Bell Creek mines. Milling recently resumed at the latter. Kinross Gold (TSE) is buying a 56.4% interest in Falconbridge Gold from Falconbridge.
