Fairbanks hosts heap-leach course

A short course on the recovery of gold from ore using heap leaching technology is being presented at the Alaska Civic Centre, March 22-23, in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Presented by the Alaska Departments of Natural Resources, Environmental Conservation and Commerce and Economic Development, the course will be held in conjunction with the Alaska Miners Association’s annual spring placer mining conference.

The 2-day course will include an overview of heap leaching technology and economics; the application of the technology to Alaska and cold climates; and permitting and environmental requirements of heap leaching.

The objective of the workshop will be to provide participants from the Alaska mining industry with sufficient technical, economic and permitting information to evaluate the feasibility of using the technology to develop mines in Alaska.

Presentations will be made by representatives of mining companies, consulting firms and by researchers at the University of Alaska mineral industry research laboratory.

No registration or course fee is required. For information contact Charlie Green, Alaska Dept. of Commerce and Economic Development, 1001 Noble St., Suite 420, Fairbanks, Alaska 99701. Phone (907) 452-7464.
