Exports of U. S.-made construction machinery last year topped US$17.2 billion worth of equipment sold worldwide, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).
The 26% increase over 2006 offers hope for American industry at atime when U. S. manufacturers face a slowdown in business at home.
In 2007, spending on U. S. construction equipment in Africa increased by 67% to US$1.1 billion. That was followed closely by purchases in Asia, with a 57% increase, (US$2.4 billion dollars) and Europe, with a 50% increase (US$2.8 billion).
Canada, which spent US$5.5 billion on construction equipment manufactured in the U. S. last year, only showed a modest spending increase from the previous year with a rise of 8.5%.
