After several lengthy appeals, the Supreme Court of Canada has finally granted Exroy Resources (CDN) full title to 43 claims in the Ungava nickel-copper belt in northern Quebec.
The decision enables the company to proceed with further exploration and development on its Expo-Ungava property, 10 miles southwest of the Raglan nickel deposit being evaluated by Falconbridge.
During the 1960s, three mineralized zones were discovered on the property, the largest being the Expo zone which contains preliminary reserves of about 6.3 million tons grading 0.86% nickel and 1.01% copper to a depth of 300 ft. This zone, which appears amenable to open-pit mining, has also yielded values up to 0.15 oz. platinum per ton and 0.75 oz. palladium in float concentrates. Exroy also holds an exploration permit on 48,000 acres which surround, and are along strike from, its other holdings. The company hopes to complete an airborne geophysical survey over the properties and then ground-truth any potential targets, Exroy director Lincoln Torrance told The Northern Miner. He added that he expects the work to be funded with public financing.
