Exploration stalls near Mt. Milligan

Exploration is winding down on properties near Placer Dome’s Mt. Milligan copper-gold deposit in central British Columbia.

Noranda Exploration carried out a program on the Mitzi property in June and July, 1993, but results were not sufficiently positive to justify further work.

As a result, an agreement was terminated between Alban Explorations (VSE) and Noranda Exploration (which performs exploration work for Toronto-listed Hemlo Gold Mines). Also terminated was Alban’s agreement with Placer Dome (TSE), which granted the major the right to fund Alban’s exploration expenditures on Mitzi.

Another junior active in the region announced that work had come to a standstill on the Chuchi Lake joint venture, 20 miles from the Mt. Milligan deposit. Digger Resources (VSE) says discussions have broken off with Placer Dome (TSE). (The junior had hoped the major would fund another round of exploration on the property.)

Activity at Chuchi Lake ended in the fall of 1992, after Digger’s previous joint-venture partner, BP Resources Canada, decided to cease exploration.
