Some exploration success was reported by Kinross Gold (K-T) at its various mine sites and mineral projects in North America and abroad.
During the third quarter, at the Macassa mine in northern Ontario, Kinross delineated about 25,000 contained ounces of gold grading better than 19 grams per tonne above the 5,000-ft. level.
Significant results from the 06 Break include 2.7 metres of 56 grams, 1.6 metres of 47 grams and 2.8 metres of 32 grams.
Kinross also reported that drilling above the 4,250-ft. level at Macassa identified gold quartz-veining in the hangingwall of the 04 Break, where the best results were 65 grams over 2.4 metres, 14 grams over 4.6 metres, and 33 grams over 1.5 metres.
At the Hoyle Pond gold mine, also in northern Ontario, drilling continued to probe mineralized structures down-plunge from existing workings. These structures include the Owl Creek zone, other mineralized horizons between Hoyle Pond and Bell Creek, and the newly discovered 2000 zone. The program is expected to result in an updated resource calculation at year-end.
Kinross has taken on some new exploration projects, including the Wilson Creek property in Nevada. Plans call for a US$1.1-million drill program, the goal of which is to define and expand the existing resource of 4 million tonnes of 2.77 grams gold.
Mineralization at Wilson Creek is hosted by Paleozoic sediments and jasperoid similar to many of the gold deposits of eastern Nevada.
In Zimbabwe, drilling is in progress to test the Simoona Hill gold project along a strongly altered mineralized zone with 1.5 km of strike length.
