EXPLORATION ROUNDUP — GeoNova discovers gold zone at Borduas-Martel

Two holes drilled recently by GeoNova Explorations (GNE-M) at the Borduas-Martel property, north of Lebel-sur-Quevillon in northwestern Quebec, have intersected a new gold zone.

Hole 96-38 returned 14.3 grams gold per tonne over 3.5 metres, including 1.9 metres of 25.8 grams. That hole is 40 metres east of, and 35 metres deeper than, hole 96-33, which returned 2 metres of 6.1 grams last winter.

Both intersections are in a sheared and altered gabbro and may be correlated, the company adds.

Hole 96-41, which was drilled 100 metres west of, and 70 metres deeper than, hole 96-33, intersected two zones 15 metres apart. That hole returned 1.3 metres of 3.5 grams and 2.4 metres of 1.9 grams gold.

Ongoing drilling at the property will attempt to identify mineralized zones similar to the discovery zone of the adjoining Desjardins property, some 1.5 km to the west. Drill results from the Desjardins property are expected to be released by the company shortly.

Drilling at the joint-ventured Berthiaume property, also near Lebel-sur-Quevillion, continues. Work there is focused on gold zones discovered in 1995. New holes there have intersected 0.9-6.8 metres grading between 3.3 and 7.3 grams gold (T.N.M. Nov.18/96).

GeoNova also has a land package near Sept-Iles, the area in which geologists from the Quebec government discovered a nickel-copper showing in August.

Trenching at the property, which is 40 km east of the government showing, has uncovered a number of nickel-copper showings.

GeoNova has 22 gold properties and 1 base-metal property in Quebec.
