Exploration programs of Preussag Canada are continuing in northwestern Ontario and Mattagami, Que.
The Ontario program is a grassroots play to follow up input airborne surveys which have indicated an environment favorable for gold mineralization in association with iron formation similar to several past producing mines and new discoveries elsewhere in the region.
The Mattagami project involves stratigraphic drill testing of the ore- bearing horizon immediately along strike from the new high grade Isle Dieu zinc-copper-silver discovery.
A strong down hole geophysical anomaly located in 1986 will be a high priority target for the 1987 program, the company says.
Preussag is managing these projects on behalf of joint ventures with Shannon Energy of Calgary, Alta.
Preussag, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Preussag Ag of West Germany, has a 1987 budget of about $1.5 millon.
