An exploration program was recently completed by Forbex Mining Resources on three properties in the Rouyn-Noranda area of Quebec.
Six short holes were drilled on the Stadacona-East property, located within the city of Rouyn, to evaluate the potential of the gold- bearing zone partially worked by the former Stadacona mine. Holes No 3 and No 19, located 174 ft apart, have indicated 0.28 oz gold per ton over 12.5 ft and 0.245 oz over 13.3 ft, respectively.
East of hole No 3, the mineralized horizon has been intersected along 984 ft by drill holes Nos 13, 14 and 4; according to Forbex spokesman Rejean Fortin, the values and widths were of less importance. The auriferous zone remains open around hole No 19 where a horizontal hole drilled from the 3,300-ft level had cut 14 ft assaying 0.15 oz.
Approximately 2 km further east, hole No 18 has intersected a mineralized horizon with gold values up to 0.2 oz over one metre. The zone, although it has been intersected in former drilling, will require more drilling, Mr Fortin said.
On the Lake Fortune-West property, located 15 miles west of Rouyn, shallow drilling on the principal zone has cut a gold mineralization assaying up to 0.335 oz over 11.2 ft, including 1.04 oz over a 2.6-ft section. Results to date indicate this zone can be traced 1,500 ft laterally, and at depth where hole No 18 intersected the zone at 450 feet.
Final sampling results from this zone, as well as those from holes drilled to verify the geophysical and geochemical anomalies elsewhere on the property, are not yet available.
On the Kekeko property, located five miles south of Rouyn, results from the geophysical survey are also not available.
In other business, Forbex recently acquired 25 mining claims on property in Dasserat Twp., Que., located to the west of Lake Fortune- West, and two properties near Earlton, Ont.
On the Clinchamp property in Dasserat Twp., a former drill hole cut a 5-ft intersection assaying 0.4 oz gold at the meeting point of a sub-parallel fault to the Cadillac fault which crosses the property from east to west. Mr Fortin said an exploration program is being studied for the property.
The two Ontario properties consist of dolomite deposits, with one containing proven reserves of 1.3 million tons averaging 20% magnesium oxide and 30% calcium oxide with less than 2% silica. Forbex foresees the principal deposit being sold for mining and agricultural purposes.
Mr Fortin said the results of a 3,000-ton bulk sample of dolomite shipped to Sherman Mines at Temagami, Ont., indicate that the dolomite meets specifications as an essential element in the processing of iron pellets. Forbex is preparing a quotation, at the demand of Sherman, for the supply of 130,000 tons of dolomite to Sherman for 1987-88.
