EXPLORATION — Mexican potential lures Aurado Exploration, Cominco

Partners Aurado Exploration (AEO-T) and Cominco (CLT-V) have identified base metal anomalies on their 8-property, 21,542-ha project in Zacatecas and Potosi states, Mexico.

The find was interpreted from results of mapping and induced-polarization surveys on the Amapola property, which is in the El Sauz volcanic centre, some 35 km northwest of the San Nicolas massive sulphide deposit jointly held by Western Copper and Teck.

Three IP anomalies were discovered in the northeastern corner of the property. Results suggest the conductors are 100 metres beneath the surface in flat-lying strata known to include sections of altered Cretaceous rholite.

The partners plan to put down three diamond drill holes to depths of 250-300 metres.

IP anomalies have also been outlined on the Piedrotas and Venaditas claim blocks, 10 km southwest of San Nicolas. At least two diamond drill holes of 250-300 metres will test chargeability anomalies on these properties.

Earlier mapping and lithogeochemical work identified altered rhyolite units with strong sodium depletion and magnesium addition signatures.

Aurado has the option of acquiring a 49% interest in the project from the Mexican subsidiary of Cominco by paying US$50,000 and spending US$3 million on exploration. Cominco can earn back a 75% interest by spending an additional US$6 million on exploration.
