EXPLORATION GEOPHYSICS IN THE MINERAL EXPLORATION INDUSTRY

This one-day course will provide decision- making professionals from mining and exploration companies with knowledge and understanding of the various geophysical techniques applied in exploration projects, pipelines, and portfolios: from reconnaissance and grassroots to advanced exploration and deposit delineation. Attendees will gain a basic knowledge of when and where to apply what geophysical technique and acquire which data, and a basic understanding of geophysical data processing and modeling products. Theoretical background will be addressed, followed by case studies of geophysical techniques applied in mineral exploration using satellite, airborne, ground, and borehole acquisition platforms. Based on different physical rock properties (density, susceptibility, resistivity, chargeability, etc.) and its relation to geological targets (lithology, alteration, mineralization, structure, etc.), the benefits of corresponding techniques will be presented (gravity, magnetics, electrical methods, electro-magnetics, etc.).
