EXPLORATION ’95 — Hemlo works Soup, Kli claims on west

The search for a large-tonnage, porphyry copper-gold deposit is expected to continue on the Soup and Kli claims in north-central British Columbia.

Hemlo Gold Mines (TSE) is earning a 51% interest in the Soup property from 75% owner Vital Pacific Resources (VSE) and 25% owner Athlone Resources (VSE). To do so, it is obligated to spend $1.5 million and to pay the companies $150,000.

Previous work identified magnetite-silica-sulphide mineralization in float and bedrock, with grab samples grading up to 38 grams gold per tonne. The samples were found within an airborne magnetic and coincident gold-copper geochemical anomaly covering an area 90-275 metres wide and 1,200 metres long. In 1989, a drill hole in the area graded 5.4 grams over 40 metres and ended in mineralization grading 2.5 grams.

Work is also expected to continue on the adjacent Kli property, which is owned 30% by Vital Pacific, 25% by Athlone and 45% by Kennecott. Hemlo can acquire 51% by spending $1 million and paying $175,000.

Previous work outlined 2.5 million tons grading 0.3% copper and 0.03 oz. gold. Hemlo has yet to announce plans for either property for the current year.
