Exploration ’88 KERR-ADDISON

Kerr Addison Mines will spend about $6.5 million exploring for gold on its properties in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia and Nevada. The total will rise to about $10 million when contributions are factored in from joint-venture partners and “earning-in” third partners. Of particular note is the Dasserat Twp. property in the Abitibi region of Ontario. This joint venture with Golden Shield Resources is investigating the Larder Lake Break, immediately east of the Kerr mine. Also among the company’s more important plays are the Frotet-Troilus Lake area north of Chibougamau; the Lake Rouleau area in Urban and Barry Twps.; a property in McNeil Twp. south of Timmins; and the Montgolfier-Aloigny Twp. project in the Casa Berardi area. Battle Mountain Gold is contributing to the second year of a four-year earn-in program at the latter project. all told, about $4 million will be spent on these properties, the company says.

In northwestern Ontario, programs centred around Pickle Lake and the Melchett Lake area north of Nakina will be progressing.

Exploration in British Columbia is concentrated in the south-central part of the province. The first phase of underground exploration has been completed at the Abo project near Harrison Lake with joint-venture partner Bema Resources. The results of this work, which included drifting, raising, bulk-sampling and testing, are being evaluated to determine the parameters of the next phase.

Kerr’s activities in the U.S. are carried out through Keradamex Inc., its wholly-owned subsidiary, in a 50/50 joint-venture with Nevcan Exploration, Minnova’s U.S. subsidiary. (Minnova is owned 49.3% by Kerr Addison.) Based in Reno, Nev., the partnership is conducting programs chiefly in the Cherry Creek Range and Slumbering Hills areas of the state.

All the company’s exploration programs are conceived and managed from two regional offices established in Sudbury, Ont. and Vancouver, B.C., assisted by district offices in Val d’Or, Que., and Reno. Technical and administrative support is provided from Toronto for the permanent professional staff of 20. The company is seeking new exploration and mining opportunities at all levels of development.
