Exploration ’88 DICKENSON

Dickenson Mines plans to spend $1.3 million on various exploration projects in 1988. This is roughly the same amount spent in 1987 and the search is again primarily for precious metals. In the Slocan district of British Columbia, Dickenson is searching for more silver to feed its 100-ton-per-day mill. Surface stripping at the nearby Carnation revealed a strong lode structure up to 45 ft wide with narrow galena stringers. These results prompted the decision to rehabilitate the Carnation adits, which were partially completed. Work has been hampered by deep overburden conditions. The 1988 surface exploration program includes rehabilitating the 6300-level and 6500-level adits to prepare the way for diamond drilling. In the Matheson area of north- eastern Ontario, Dickenson Mines and New Cinch Uranium are in a 50-50 joint venture on two claim groups in Holloway and Marriott twps. On the Holloway property, which lies about two miles to the northeast of the Holt- McDermott mine, the 1987 diamond drill program located a strong altered zone some 100 ft wide. This area of alteration contains a 25-ft silicified, brecciated zone with 3% to 15% pyrite and low-order gold values (0.02 to 0.04 oz gold per ton). The structure will be investigated by diamond drilling early in 1988. The Marriott property on the Quebec-Ontario border, adjacent to Highway 101, has a number of geophysical anomalies which will be examined by diamond drilling.

Dickenson’s Nevada joint venture is made up of Dickenson (40%), PreCambrian Exploration (35%) and Reserve Industries Corp. (25%). The 1987 season was spent following up gold anomalies found from precious- metal geochemical reconnaissance programs in various parts of Nevada. Six properties have been staked to date and detailed follow-up work is planned for 1988. PreCambrian Exploration manages the program with offices and lab facilities in Denver, Colo. The annual budget is in the $500,000(us) range, of which Dickenson contributes 50%.

Goldquest Exploration is a company held 37.9% by Dickenson and 18.2% by Sullivan Resources. Goldquest’s 1987 program in the Red Lake area of northwestern Ontario consisted of outcrop stripping with detailed mapping and sampling and 32,500 ft of diamond drilling in 50 drill holes. A number of intersections at the Abino, Rowan, Inore and Redcon properties require further follow-up. The 1988 program will consist primarily of diamond drilling. Early in 1988, a stockpile of ore will be trucked from the Rowan property to the A.W. White mill. This ore originated from a test-mining program in 1984.

R. E. Van Tassell is Dickenson’s vice-president, exploration. The company has five permanent staff workers at its Toronto head office.
