Exploration ’88 AMERICAN BARRICK

American Barrick Resources has a firm $3-million exploration budget for 1988, exclusive of exploration activity in the vicinity of the Mercur and Goldstrike gold mines in Nevada.(For information on the Goldstrike area, see our article on the Carlin play on page 26.) Much of the budget is committed to a further, major drilling program in Harker and Holloway Twps., in northeastern Ontario. Barrick controls a number of contiguous properties covering a 7 1/2-mile-long favorable area that extends mainly westward on strike from the Holt-McDermott mine. In addition to having an interest in some of the mine’s reserves, the Kasner group of companies, through Lenora Explorations, has a 35% participating interest in most of the properties that will be drilled.

A major drilling program will be carried out on the Pandora property, in the Cadillac area of Quebec, following a number of ore-quality drill intersections that were obtained in 1987. Queenston Gold Mines has a 25% interest in the property.

Barrick’s exploration activity in Canada is conducted from an office in Kirkland Lake, headed by Gilles Tousignant. Property examination activity in the western U.S. is conducted from an office in Reno, Nev. Charles Sulfrian runs the Reno office.
