EXPLORATION 1999 – MCK launches drill program

A drill program by MCK Mining (MCKM-C) is under way on the Martison phosphate project near Hearst, Ont.

The Toronto-based junior is attempting to upgrade existing resources and provide samples for metallurgical and chemical processing tests. Some of the holes are being drilled to satisfy the due diligence requirements of a potential joint-venture partner.

At last report, an independent consultant calculated a geological resource of 113 million tonnes averaging 21.4% P2O5, using a cutoff grade of 10% P2O5. Under the proposed mining plan, this resource would supply a phosphoric acid plant for more than 20 years.

Once the winter program is completed, a decision will be made whether or not to proceed to a full feasibility study. MCK’s project is 110 km north of the Kapuskasing phosphate mine, which is being placed into production by Agrium.
