EXPLORATION 1998 — Virginia hits gold in Quebec

Virginia Gold Mines (VIA-M) has identified a gold-bearing structure at its Corvet West property near James Bay, in Quebec.

The showing, situated in the Guyer volcanic belt, is associated with an east-west shear that has developed within amphibolites, silicate and oxide-facies iron formations. Mineralization there, which occurs as centimetric stringers and bands of pyrite and arsenopyrite, is associated with silica, garnet and actinolite alterations. The mineralized shear can be traced laterally over 22 metres, and remains open in all directions.

Selected grab samples include 3.98, 11.04, 16.46 and 32.71 grams gold.

Channels excavated on the showing returned 5.6 grams over 3 metres, 14.3 grams over 2 metres and 8 grams over 2 metres. Drilling is planned for the current year.
