EXPLORATION 1997 — VenCan tests gold-silver anomaly at Opoteca concession in Honduras

Sampling and drilling at the Opoteca concession of VenCan Gold (VCG-M) in Honduras have identified a gold-silver body at least 400 metres long.

A 2,000-metre drill program testing the Antiguas area confirmed the presence of a sub-surface, mineralized felsic intrusive horizon. Results from that program include: 4.55 metres of 402 grams silver and 0.6 gram gold per tonne; 8.3 metres of 173.5 grams silver and 0.33 gram gold; 7.45 metres of 97.8 grams silver and 0.08 gram gold; and 13.5 metres of 234.9 grams silver and 0.54 gram gold.

VenCan also conducted a geochemical soil survey on a 1.2-by-0.8-km grid 700 metres east of, and down grade from, the Antiguas area. That work identified several anomalous areas trending northeast and averaging more than 0.2 gram gold. The highest value recovered from the area was 2.2 grams. Trenching is under way.

A resource estimate is nearing completion.
