Being a long-term resident of the Keewatin region of the Northwest Territories, specifically Eskimo Point, I am offended by The Northern Miner’s insinuation that exploration activity in our region is centred around Rankin Inlet, N.W.T.
In your Oct 10 edition, you report Sikaman’s Kaminak Lake project as being located 160 km southwest of Rankin Inlet. Although this is true, Kaminak Lake is only 115 km northwest of Eskimo Point. Since virtually all materials, manpower and equipment come from the south, I feel you should be relating the property to the closest southerly community.
Another example is from your Nov 7 edition in which you report Dejour Mines’ Turquetil Lake property as being 140 km southwest of Rankin Inlet. Again, this is true. However, their camp is only 75 miles west-northwest of Eskimo Point.
The town of Eskimo Point has a permanent resident population of 1,350 people. We are also serviced by scheduled and charter air services. There are hotel accommodations as well as a variety of other services provided locally.
I hope that in the future when reporting on mining and exploration activity in our region, this information will be considered. Jon K. Lindell Eskimo Point Lumber Supply & Airport Services LTD. Eskimo Point, N.W.T.
