It was an impressive, even moving, sight at the awards dinner of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy to see the nearly three dozen men invited up to the head table to be honored for their inclusion in the cim’s 50-Year Club membership roles.
These are proud, though now elderly, men. One of them, walking haltingly with a cane, had to be helped up the short steps to the space behind the podium where he and the others stood to receive the applause of an audience that clearly perceived what a long and important role each has played in the life of the cim and the mining industry generally. Men such as Herbert Cox, Norman Wadge, D. M. Rankin, Cedric Anderson, just to name a few.
The entire awards program (see story on opposite page) is something of which the institute should well be proud. It honors outstanding people in an industry which is itself a model to the world.
