A totally unsubstantiated report, just now surfacing, has it that several years ago in the jungles of Java, two geologists lowered into an old mine to check it out were eaten by a 40-ft python lurking at the bottom of the shaft.
Come now. There is no way first of all that any python of our acquaintance, 40-ft or no, could swallow a couple of 6-ft geologists. That would be roughly equivalent, we would think, to Hulk Hogan putting down a couple of whole 20-lb turkeys. Secondly, geologists are just too leathery and weather-beaten to appear, even to a snake, as a desirable dish.
We doubt the whole thing.
