Ecuadorian cuts high-grade mantos in Peru

Widely spaced drilling has returned strong gold values for Ecuadorian Minerals (EMC-T) at the Vetaspata property in southeastern Peru.

Results from 12 of 19 core holes, totalling 1,750 metres, confirm the subsurface extent of manto-style mineralization over a large area, measuring 800 by 550 metres.

Many of the holes encountered multiple mantos, including hole 17, which intersected eight of these structures.

The highest-grade intercept occurred in hole 6, which hit 1.8 metres grading 14.4 grams gold per tonne at a depth of 15 metres. Farther down, at a depth of 32.7 metres, the hole hit 0.8 metre of 28.8 grams.

Hole 1 cut 1.2 metres grading 8.4 grams per tonne.

Hole 3 hit 1.7 metres grading 2 grams per tonne on Manto 1 and 0.3 metre of 2.4 grams on Manto 2, as well as lesser values on lower mantos.

Hole 5 intercepted four mantos, including 1.6 metres of 3.2 grams on Manto 1, 0.5 metre of 6.7 grams on Manto 2, 1 metre of 9 grams on Manto 3 and 0.6 metre of 2.2 grams on Manto 4. Geologists at the site reported visible gold in core from Mantos 2 and 3.

The company reported no significant values in holes 8, 10, 11 and 12. Results from the remaining seven holes are expected by year-end.

Several intercepts that contained visible gold, including those in hole 5, returned lower-than-expected gold values, in the range of 6 to 8 grams per tonne. The company believes these irregularities are due to the nugget effect and mineral leaching.

In January, the company will begin panel sampling, underground drifting and bulk sampling. Drilling will follow, as well as mapping and sampling at the newly discovered Campanilla zone, 3 km to the southeast. There, initial exploration has located as many as five stacked mantos, ranging from 0.5 to 2 metres in thickness along a large escarpment, still within the 60-sq. km property.
