The Houghton, Mich.-based Mineral Economics and Management Society has presented two awards for papers written by graduate students on the topic of mineral economics.
First prize of US$1,000 was presented to Peter Howie of the Colorado School of Mines for Subsidization and Market Power in the Copper Industry.
Second prize of US$750 was awarded to Jianping Zhang of Queens University for Should Government Subsidize Mineral Exploration? — A Canadian Perspective.
The awards were sponsored by El Paso Energy and Alcan Aluminum.
