Eastmaque anticipates producing 24,000 oz gold at Kirkland Lake

Annual gold output from Eastmaque Gold Mines’ Kirkland Lake tailings project in Ontario will be around 24,000 oz, up from the 20,000 oz originally projected, the company reports.

Eastmaque started processing gold mine tailings through its mill early in December. Tailings are pumped directly to the flotation circuit where recovery is averaging 60%. Concentrate grade is averaging 2.0 oz gold per ton, up from the design value of 1.0 oz.

Eastmaque experienced some delays with completion of its filter press, but it is now running smoothly and concentrate is being produced, President Lutz Klingman says. The first truck load of concentrate was hauled to Noranda’s Horne smelter in Quebec on Jan 18.

Piping and electrical installation for the screen, thickener, stock tank and ball mill is continuing and will be completed by mid-February.

Despite temperatures to –30 degrees with winds up to 30 km/h in Kirkland Lake, the dredge is continuing to operate, confirming a year-round operation for the project.
