Dufresne new MAC chairman

Guy Dufresne will replace John Carrington as chairman of the Mining Association of Canada (MAC).

Dufresne is president of Quebec Cartier Mining and chairman of Montreal-based Cambior. For 20 years, he worked for Consolidated-Bathurst, serving as executive vice-president, pulp and paper. Subsequently, from 1989 to 1992, he was president of Kruger, another pulp-and-paper company.

Dufresne resides in Montreal and in 1995 won the Prix Mrite de l’Association des Diploms de l’cole Polytechnique for his contributions to the field of engineering.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from l’cole Polytechnique, a bachelor of arts from Universit de Montral, a master of engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a master of business administration from Harvard University.

Other officers elected at MAC’s annual meeting include James Carter as first vice-chairman and David Goldman as second vice-chairman. Carter is the president of Syncrude Canada, whereas Goldman is the chief operating officer of Noranda.
