Two holes drilled from the new third level of the Sleeping Giant gold mine have confirmed the continuity of Zones 20 and 30 at depth.
The mine, found 80 km north of Amos, Que., is owned equally by Aurizon Mines (TSE) and Cambior (TSE). The mineralized intercepts were cut between 685 and 785 metres below surface and are true width.
Zone 20 was cut by hole 60-1 and averaged 0.5 gram per tonne over 1.4 metres. Zone 30 was cut by the same hole with an intercept of 19.4 grams over 1.5 metres.
Hole 60-2 intersected the two zones with intercepts of 19.2 grams over 1.4 metres and 6.5 grams over 1.4 metres, respectively.
Hole 60-1 also intersected a mineralized structure between the two zones; it ran 13.7 grams gold over 1.4 metres.
The partners suggest there is potential to increase mining reserves at depth, and the depth of the shaft will therefore be extended 60 metres to the 785-metre level.
Currently, the companies are carrying out a 5-level development program which is expected to cost $7.2 million.
