Drilling expands Cerro Casale

Four drill rigs continue to work at establishing the ultimate size of the Cerro Casale gold-copper porphyry deposit on the Aldebaran property in northern Chile.

Property owner Arizona Star Resource (AZS-V), with a 51% interest, and partner Bema Gold (BGO-T), with 49%, have released results from a further 10 deep drill holes.

The results continue to confirm that the main porphyry zone extends substantially to the south and west. Results to date have led the partners to increase their preliminary resource estimate to greater than 750 million tonnes.

The deposit remains open to the south and west and at depth.

Three of the most recent holes tested the northeastern and eastern margins of the deposit; five holes tested the southwestern extension; and two continued to extend the high-grade breccia zone.

Highlights from drilling in the southwestern extension included: 522 metres grading 1.03 grams gold per tonne and 0.25% copper in hole 51; 268 metres of 0.82 gram gold and 0.46% copper in hole 57; 446 metres of 0.92 gram gold and 0.23% copper (including 172 metres averaging 1.24 gram gold and 0.2% copper) in hole 59; 430 metres of 1.03 grams gold and 0.23% copper (including 194 metres averaging 1.33 grams gold and 0.25% copper) in hole 62; and 352 metres of 0.84 gram gold and 0.36% copper in hole 61.

The high-grade breccia zone was tested by hole 50, which intersected 76 metres grading 2.96 grams gold and 1.11% copper. The hole also cut through several intervals of porphyry mineralization, including 0.73 gram gold and 0.49% copper over 36 metres, and 0.78 gram gold and 0.48% copper over 98.1 metres.

Hole 53 returned 72 metres of breccia mineralization grading 2.59 grams gold and 0.76% copper before passing through 80 metres of porphyry grading 0.95 gram gold and 0.53% copper, plus 158 metres of porphyry grading 1.18 grams gold and 0.5% copper.
