The discovery hole into the recent kimberlite find at the Jericho project in the Northwest Territories pulled 92.5 metres of kimberlite from the land-based Contwoyto-1 target between a downhole depth of 54.5 and 147 metres before shutting down after entering country rock.
Situated 400 km northeast of Yellowknife, the Jericho project is a 50-50 joint venture between Lytton Minerals (LTL-T) and New Indigo Resources (NDR-A).
The core from the newly discovered kimberlite will be prepared and shipped to Lytton’s North Vancouver lab for caustic fusion analysis. Contwoyto-1 was discovered 30 km east of the original Jericho pipes in the immediate vicinity of an indicator mineral train, where kimberlite float material has been recovered. Preliminary microdiamond analysis of 180 kg of the sampled float material indicates that it is diamondiferous, though no diamond counts have been published.
Exploration drilling is continuing at Jericho. The rig has now moved from the Contwoyto area to the central project area to test additional targets close to the diamondiferous JD-01 and JD-03 pipes.
