With the grades confirmed at the Koktasjal deposit, development is expected to proceed at Ursa Major International’s (URSA-C) copper-gold project in central Kazakhstan.
During the 1960s, Soviet geologists outlined a resource of 57 million tonnes grading 0.62% copper and 0.71 gram gold per tonne for the deposit’s sulphide zone. Ursa has confirmed the copper grade in a 2-hole program, though gold results have yet to be determined.
Hole C-101 intersected 106.3 metres grading 0.84% copper beginning at surface, and 63.45 metres grading 0.88% copper beginning at 132 metres. Hole C-102 encountered three intersections: 9.6 metres grading 0.84% copper; 72.9 metres grading 0.92% copper; and 82 metres of 0.83% copper.
The company is conducting geophysical and lithogeochemical surveys that will guide the next phase of definition drilling, scheduled to begin in July. In addition, surface exploration will continue on copper-gold showings in the area.
Meanwhile, the viability of low-cost, solvent-extraction electrowinning technology will be evaluated on samples of the overlying oxide zone.
