The last 15 holes of a 35-hole drilling program on the MacLeod Lake property have intersected significant widths of copper mineralization, fuelling hopes for a low- grade, high-tonnage deposit. By the end of March, Windy Mountain Explorations (COATS) had completed 3,807 metres of drilling on its wholly owned grassroots property, 200 km north of Chibougamau, Que. The program was designed to test copper-molybdenum showings of quartz-feldspathic gneisses and granitic rocks on the 54-claim prospect. Although the near-surface copper mineralization is low grade (generally less than 1%), it appears to be consistently wide (up to 90 metres) and continuous over almost all of the 35 holes. Highlights from the recent drilling include 66 metres grading 0.61% in hole 25 and 68 metres grading 0.58% in hole 31.
But as the company prepares for a summer exploration program to further delineate the mineralized zone, the Indian bands in the James Bay area are fighting for ownership of Macleod Lake and vicinity.
In 1975, the bands made an agreement with the Quebec government involving 410,000 square miles of land, but have since filed a lawsuit to have the agreement rescinded and their traditional ownership restored.

Assays are pending on holes 33-35.
Meanwhile, Windy Mountain has entered into a farm-in option and joint venture agreement with Cochise Resources (COATS). Cochise can earn up to a 50% interest in 840 sq. km of land on the periphery of the MacLeod lake property by spending $1.25 million on exploration and development by November, 1992.
