Drill program at Eagle River

Surface drilling at the Eagle River gold project near Wawa, Ont., continues to return encouraging results for River Gold Mines (TSE).

The project, which wound up late this month, involves stope definition drilling above an existing drift at a depth of 120 metres. To date, three stopes at the No. 8 zone have been outlined, with strike lengths of 20, 45 and 80 metres.

Drilling within these blocks indicates an average true width of 2.63 metres and an average grade of 40.03 grams gold per tonne, or 14.63 grams when cut to 34.29 grams (1 oz. per ton).

Drilling of the No. 6 zone has defined a block averaging 130 metres in strike length, with an average true width of 1.9 metres and an average grade of 23.6 grams (or 13.17 grams when cut). The western limit has been delineated, while the eastern extremity remains open “along a thick, moderately east-plunging shoot,” the company says.

More definition drilling will be progressively conducted from underground beginning in March, 1995, River Gold says.

Startup is planned for the second half of 1995.
