The Canadian Geological Foundation, a non-profit organization noted for its support of education in the earth sciences, is seeking donations to help it restore documents of historical significance.
It hopes to raise about $100,000 to de-acidify and rebind about 60 volumes of published materials so that they can be handled safely by geological researchers.
The materials, consisting of rare books, maps and photographs, form part of the personal collection of Sir William Logan, founder of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC). They are stored at the GSC’s library in Ottawa where they are to be indexed, catalogued and made readily available to researchers. Contributions may be sent to: The Logan Legacy Fund, c/o Canadian Geological Foundation, Attn: Dr. H.C. Morris, Imperial Metals Corp., Suite 800, 601 W. Hastings St., Vancouver, B.C. V6B 5A6.
